Since I was little, playing the piano has always fixed a gloomy mood. The familiarity and magic that my fingers can draw from this big instrument is something I am exceedingly grateful for. Tonight I’ve been writing a song and that’s an even better drug than just playing.

I picked up Nat King Cole’s 1957 album, Just One of Those Things, at the opshop for two bucks. Talk about money well spent. Nat’s voice is the musical equivalent of apple tart and custard, perfectly balancing the sweet and spice. The band arrangements are spectacular and the songs are top shelf.
I just found an app that makes photos into art. It’s lots of fun making yourself into a watercolour or mosaic or line drawing or … down the wormhole I go.
What a joy to have a dressing room for this evening’s gig. And each time I went in there the carpet made me laugh, it was so terrible. Like a dinosaur ate a tiger and then spewed it back up.
I feel very lucky that I get to work with these two gents. Both fine musicians and wonderful people. Twas an absolute pleasure to spend the afternoon playing French tunes with them today for Bastille Day.
