I started learning how to make bobbin lace on the weekend. It's wonderfully logical and an exercise in minuscule engineering. The different coloured threads make it easier to learn and to see that you're doing it correctly. This is all whole stitch and up close it looks like I'm weaving a teeny, tiny rug.
You probably know I'm quite fond of dress-ups and stories and talking to people. Volunteering at Sovereign Hill ticks all these boxes and more. My first day today was perfect weather and I very much enjoyed learning the ropes and meeting people in my flouncy pink ruffles.
It's quite the view from the top of Sovereign Hill, with the Poppet Head standing proudly over the Ballarat skyline. I'm looking forward to seeing this view more often as a costumed volunteer (in my pink, ruffled skirt).
Old fonts and new fonts, they're not so far apart. Not much has changed since the 1800s. I had a wonderful discussion with the printer at Sovereign Hill today about fonts and printing. As the sun descended below the tree-line at the end of a beautiful autumn day, a cup of mulled cider warmed both hand and heart this afternoon.
