The human brain loves order. That’s why we find a vineyard so pleasing. All those rows of neatly trellised grapes rolling over hills. I found a little orderly pleasure while making dinner this evening. Having washed and dried the mushrooms, they lined themselves up neatly on the chopping board for me to admire. Sadly for the mushrooms, their orderly life on stage was brief. A moment after this photo was taken I shoved them into a pile, chopped them up and threw them into the pan with some maple syrup and balsamic vinegar. (There’s also something quite pleasurable about disrupting order, but I’ll get to that in another post.)
