The sky was dark and the rain bucketing down this morning in Melbourne. I had failed to check the weather forecast and thus did not have an umbrella to protect me from the downpour. I was quite bedraggled by the time I arrived at Chapter House Coffee, a hole in the wall in the tiny laneway at the back of St Paul’s Cathedral. But there I was sheltered from the rain with an excellent double espresso, watching the rain falling on the stairs and the slightly damp office workers trotting off to work (in mostly inappropriate shoes). My refuge seemed all the sweeter knowing that the moment I left I would be instantly soggy again.
