Tiny Pleasures #271: Bass String Balls

2024-09-28T21:58:53+10:00September 28th, 2024|music, Tiny Pleasures|

The rest of the country spent the afternoon watching a bunch of blokes kick a football around a field this afternoon. The only. balls I was watching were the ones on the ends of my bass strings. I'm learning to bow and those big, fat bass frequencies are the audiological equivalent of sticky date pudding

Tiny Pleasures #270: Songwriting Exercises

2024-09-27T21:09:00+10:00September 27th, 2024|music, Tiny Pleasures, Words|

You can sit around waiting for inspiration to strike, or you can look a song straight in the eye and work on it. I quite enjoyed the word association exercise I did this week and it resulted in a song. In the end I didn't use a lot of the words on the list, but

Tiny Pleasures #269: City Flower Beds

Ballarat's public spaces are very well kept by the city gardeners. In Sturt Street this evening I spotted a new flower installation with letters. I pondered, is this shortened form of Ballarat? Then pondered some more and realised it is floral representation of the football. They even have the white posts behind the bed. I'm

Tiny Pleasures #268: Brunswick Bar Style

How delightful to be gifted a pineapple today. A fine specimen, I am looking forward to biting into a chunk of its juicy flesh. But first, I shall admire it for a few days, as one would have in 16th century Europe, where its rarity and otherworldliness turned it into a status symbol.

Tiny Pleasures #261: Coffee Delivery

2024-09-18T21:43:42+10:00September 18th, 2024|coffee, Home, Tiny Pleasures|

A coffee subscription is a marvellous thing. I don't have to think about whether I need beans because I get a delivery every couple of months from Mikro in Torquay. It brings me much joy to arrive home to find the blue box of goodness tucked behind the bass sculpture next to my front door.
